Medical Laboratory Assistant Techniques
Class
Introduction
This course provides the additional skills
needed to perform the duties often required to function successfully
in a doctor’s office, small clinic, urgent care facilities, private
laboratories, draw stations and hospitals. The course will include
the following;
1.
Introduction to the metric system
2.
Laboratory mathematics and basic chemistry
3.
Laboratory safety, first aid, and fire safety
4.
General laboratory equipment and techniques
5.
Hematology
6.
Bacteriology
7.
Urinalysis
8.
A wet lab class session of actually performing laboratory techniques
such as gram stains, blood stains, urinalysis, and centrifuging
9.
Final examination and a field trip to a clinical laboratory
Home
Work Time Required
- 1-2 hours a night 3-4 nights a week
Quizzes
A short quiz will be given on each of the areas
listed above. Minimum passing score for the quizzes will be 88% for
lab math and 80% on all others.
